Line pumps and access

What is a line pump, and when do I need one?

A line pump pushes concrete through a hose from the ready-mix truck to the pour. You need one when the truck's chute can't reach: backyards, basements, slopes, tight lots, or anywhere you'd otherwise be running wheelbarrows.

Do I need a pump for a driveway, patio or slab?

If the truck can back right up to the forms, maybe not. If it can't get within a few feet, or the ground is soft, sloped or landscaped, a line pump is usually faster and cheaper than barrowing, and it saves your lawn.

How much room does the pump truck need?

About 9 ft of width to get in and park. The line itself fits through gaps as small as 5 inches, so it can go through side gates, around houses and down stairs.

How far can you pump?

We carry 500+ ft of line on the truck at all times. Longer runs are possible with a heads-up when you book.

Will the hose mark my driveway or deck?

We set pumper caddies under the hose clamps on decks, pavers, finished concrete and other surfaces that mark easily. Tell us about anything delicate along the route.

Can you pump into a backyard, basement or up a slope?

Yes, that's what a line pump is for. The line goes through side gates, around houses, down stairs, up hills, and through windows or holes in floors and ceilings. Send photos of the route and we'll confirm.

Booking and pump day

How much notice do you need?

Short notice is fine. If we're free, we'll be there. Booking a few days ahead gets you the time you want.

What if it rains or my pour gets moved?

Call us and we'll work out a new time together. There are no cancellation fees.

Do you supply the concrete?

No. You order it from your ready-mix supplier. We bring the pump and line, and coordinate the timing with your supplier.

What concrete should I order?

Ask your ready-mix supplier for a pump mix and tell them it's being line-pumped. We work with all local suppliers and coordinate the timing with them.

Where does the pump get washed out?

On site if there's a suitable spot, which saves you a washout fee. If not, we arrange it with your ready-mix supplier.

Do I need to be there on pump day?

Someone who knows the job should be on site when we arrive, to confirm where the truck parks and where the concrete goes. Your crew places and finishes; we run the pump.

Do you work on the Gulf Islands?

Yes. We pump on Salt Spring, Pender and the other Southern Gulf Islands. Ferry fares are added to the quote.

Concrete and curing

How much concrete do I need?

Measure the forms and use our concrete calculator. It works out slabs, footings, walls, post holes and stairs, and adds 5 to 10% extra so you don't run short.

How long before I can walk or drive on new concrete?

As a rough guide in mild weather: foot traffic after a day or two, cars after about 7 days, and heavy vehicles after about 28 days. From November to March, Victoria-area days average about 7 to 11°C with nights around 3°C, and concrete gains strength more slowly in the cold, so allow extra days and keep fresh concrete protected from frost for the first two days. Your finisher or supplier can advise for your pour.

Pricing and payment

How is pricing worked out?

Your price is based on pump time, the volume pumped, line length and travel from Langford. Send the details through the quote form or call, and we'll send a written estimate with your booking confirmation. No hidden fees: anything extra, like an off-site washout, is listed on your estimate before the pour. First-time customers get 25% off.

How do I pay?

Interac e-Transfer, credit or debit card, cash, cheque or bank draft. Bitcoin by arrangement. Payment is due when the pour is done; contractor accounts get 30 days.

Do you have accounts for contractors?

Yes. Net 30 terms, one invoice per job and your PO number on every bill. Apply for an account.
